turning off auto-caps

I want to turn off auto-caps for any word I type on my MacBook Air. I tried to do it in system preferences, but, although I unchecked the box for "capitalize sentences automatically," it still capitalizes them when I type text messages.

Mac won't auto-capitalize I turned off auto-capitalization recently in Settings. Now when I toggle the feature back to ON, my text still does not capitalize automatically. I'm using Ventura 13.2.1 Thank you.
