Indeed I'd suggest to sell the iPhone XS and buy a more updated one, the battery change it's too expensive.

Check to see what the Maximum Health of the battery is at this time.
Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging > Maximum Capacity
Apple Service will replace the battery if the Max Capacity is 80% or less. Cost is $89 (US).

An iPhone XS is becoming old this is logical $89 dollars saved plus the sale of the iphone XS you might get an iPhone 12 even a 13. It's also true the Author is talking about performance and he thinks it can be the battery getting old. But it could even be the iPhone itself and not the battery itself. So the costs might be over $89
