I wanted to replace my Apple Pencil tip with a finer one for drawing and it doesn’t work.

I bought a high rated Apple Pencil tip replacement on Amazon for a fine, ballpoint pen-style drawing technique. I started by following the directions for 1st gen tip removal (punch the tip and turn counterclockwise). It wouldn’t come off. So I used pliers. The new tip easily went in, but now it won’t work. Bluetooth is on, the battery is charged, it says the Apple Pencil is connected, but nothing is happening. Should I just buy a whole new Apple Pencil/cut my losses?

Your Pencil tip should be easily unscrewed from the body of the Pencil. As described, in using pliers to remove the tip, you may have damaged the Pencil's transducer that interacts with the iPad screen. The transducer is located beneath the replaceable pencil tip.
