so my macbook has one of those green lines thats not that noticeable but when i open the screen smaller than the L shape its normal brightness but if i open it anymore than that the screen darkens and cant see as much would i need a screen replacement or?

If the backlight goes out when you open or move the lid, then it indicates the Display Assembly will need replaced. I'm guessing you most likely have a 2016 - 2019 USB-C MBPro which had a design flaw with the display cable. No, there are no free repair programs.
