Safari tabs vs. windows

My safari is opening everything in a new window instead of a new tab. HELP! I have the settings set to tabs but it is not working. I am on MacOS Sonoma 14.1 and Safari 17.1.

Safari is opening a new window instead of tab I have the settings in Safari to set to automatically open a tab instead of a window but after I did the most recent update I have had issues with it opening windows instead of tabs. I have tried changing it to "always" and that also hasn't worked. I have closed safari and restarted it and that hasn't helped. I have also restarted my MacBook but I also did not work. Any suggestions?

How do I fix Safari not showing all my tabs on MacBook Air with macOS Sequoia 15.4? I just updated my MacBook Air (15 inch, M2, 2023) to macOS Sequoia 15.4 (24E248). I have Safari 18.4 (20621.1.15.11.10) running on my system. After the update, some of the tabs aren't visible in the Safari window (see the screenshot below). The ones visible on the left are pinned tabs, and the ones on the right are unpinned tabs. But I can see that there are unpinned tabs in the empty space when I hover the mouse pointer on them. Indeed, when I click on a tab in the empty space, I can then see the tab at the top (see the other screenshot below). I have 71 tabs open at the moment. I tried quitting Safari and reopening it, but that didn't help. I could try restarting but since my system already rebooted after the software update, I don't see how that will help. Can you please help me make the tabs visible again? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

Safari opening first tab instead of last active tab on MacBook since 14.4 update I have Safari set up to open with all windows from last session. Before latest Sonoma update to 14.4, Safari would open with the last active tab (as it still does on iPhone and iPad). Now when I open Safari, it always opens with the first tab on left hand side of display. How do I get it back to opening on last active tab again?
