Non-cellular iphone use cellular apple watch for texting?

Here is the scenario: We are getting our daughter an Apple Watch with a cellular connection, so she can get calls/texts on the go without an iPhone. She has an older iPhone with no cell service at home with WiFi for pairing with the watch. Question: Since the watch text interface is tiny, if she has the iPhone away from home wi-fi (no cell anything for the phone) and is paired with the Apple Watch, will texts from the phone be able to use the Apple Watch to send the texts?

If one of you has a working iphone you could pair her cellular watch to one of your iphones with somewhat limited functions.

I am not even sure it will pair to her iphone without a SIM

I tried to find out about that before my initial answer. I couldn't find anything definitive from Apple, though there were a few older references to people doing it successfully. But even if it's possible for a watch without cellular, if what the OP wants is a watch with an active cellular connection, they would need to do exactly what you recommended. And then the watch wouldn't be paired to the phone without cellular.

But I am kind of curious now.
