How can I update my phone

I see that the Related Article is about macOS Sonoma. Note that macOS (the Macintosh operating system) is not the same as iOS (the iPhone operating system). They share underlying technologies but are not identical.

• iOS 17 is the latest OS for iPhones.
• iPadOS 17 is the latest OS for iPads.
• macOS 14 (Sonoma) is the latest OS for Macintosh computers.

The iPhone 6s can run the latest version of iOS 15 – which is currently iOS 15.8. It cannot run iOS 16 or higher.

The latest version is iOS 17.1, but your iPhone 6s is not capable of handling anything higher than iOS 15.8.

Make sure that you have a strong Wi-Fi Internet connection and that the battery is fully charged.

Tap Settings > General > Software Update. If all is well, an update will appear.

Updating an iPhone 6s to iOS17.1:

A. You can't.  The iPhone 7 will only install to iOS 15. See here: Update your iPhone or iPad Software if you're Experiencing Issues with Location, Date, and Time - Apple Support. And, for the note, even if you could update, only the latest compatible version will install.
