So, as I was playing around with the new upgrade, I checked off automatically delete messages, thinking that it would give me further prompts, and it did not. I have gone into my settings to make sure it shows to keep forever, but I'm concerned that I have enabled auto delete option, and I can't uncheck it

If you open the Settings App, then tap Messages and down at the bottom, Message History. Does it say keep messages Forever? If yes, you don't have to worry. The message you see is a suggestion. It appears you have a LOT of memory used storing messages and you could save 20gb of data if you didn't keep every message you've ever received. And you don't have that much more memory left on your iPhone.
