How do I restore from an earlier backup
my last backup was from factory settings so I need to restore from a backup earlier in the day.

If you are using an iCloud backup - and this backup has since been refreshed since performing the factory restore (that itself erases all data from the iPad) - you will have lost your backup data.
An iCloud backup is incremental - being updated by each successive backup. Multiple backup versions are not available.
