Apple Watch series 8 fall detection stinks

Fell while hiking and broke my ankle, no fall detection. Was told by Apple rep that I had to have laid there for it to trigger. I DID lay there for like 5 mins getting my wits about me.

Then the next day I tripped on my crutches and again, went down hard. Again, no detection.

Fall detection is one of the reasons I bought the watch in the first place, and this is ridiculous and misleading.
