I have an older ipod with some of my favorite music. I want to transfer music to my new Dell desktop, to either itunes or some other player. I've tried without success to upload music from ipod.

It is a one way sync - itunes to Apple devices. What you'll need is to purchase touch copy or imazing to export the music from you device to pc.
thanks. I'll try that. in my search, I saw Touch Copy, but it wasn't free, so I passed. I'll pony up now.
