Unable to reinstall Mac OS after erasing disk

I cannot reinstall Mac OS after erasing my disk - it downloads but then just says cannot reinstall

My first thought is that the reason is because the downloaded file got corrupted during the download. This often happens when done via Wi-Fi. Better to use a wired Ethernet connection for downloading these very large files. If that is not possible, then you may have to do multiple downloads until you get a good one that will install correctly.
