After 4 hours of completing a new list, i deleted it I used time machine to go back, it was there! but some how I could not bring it to now. each time it would only have the regular lists appear. Tried to go back farther it won't have the new data. Note went to Contacts first, then time machine.

Restore contacts stored in iCloud on iCloud.com
On the Mac Contacts app are stored in...from Finder>Go>Go to Folder copy & paste:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
