iCloud help only tells me that if I look at Settings>MYNAME>iCloud>Manage>Backups it will show a list of which device backups are being stored in iCloud. In my case this is none - because I don't know how to add a device
Your Mac cannot backup to iCloud. You can backup using Time Machine (or similar) to an external drive.
