Which PowerBook G4 A1138 battery came last, the A1148 or the A1078?

"The battery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) and MacBook Pro has been updated because of a new battery released with this computer." – from the calibration instructions.

I wish Apple would have clarified which "new battery" they referred to - the A1148 or the A1078. How do they differ? Which one came last?

I have shared my research here. The Technology Overview from 2005 mentioned the M9325G/A battery, but the product page mentioned M9756G/A.

Is there a definitive source that relates the battery model numbers to the part numbers?

I believe so. Go to the Mac App Store on a modern Mac and get the free MacTracker database:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/mactracker/id430255202?mt=12

or download it from the developer's site:

https://mactracker.ca

For each PowerBook G4 model, there is a tabbed "card. If your click the "Connections" tab, you get this showing power information that includes the battery M000 or A000 number:

You can quickly page through the same tab for models before and after the one shown do see other battery model by PBG4 model.

I would have a hard time volunteering here without MacTracker. It's a very useful bit of kit. I've never found an error in.

PS: those codes with a slash character like "M9756G/A" are what Apple calls "order numbers." FOr some prodcute like computer the are used to denote localizations and installed options. Not sure why the used the format for batteries.

Thank you, I don't look at MacTracker as a 100% reliable source, but as another way to corroborate. At first glance, it does contain omissions and questionable data, e.g. the HDMI port on the Mac mini 2023 (Mac14,3) is not listed, the Late 2012 Mac mini (Macmini6,1) has a Panasonic BR2032 PRAM battery, not a CR2032, and the power adapter for the PowerBook G4 PowerBook6,8 has model number A1036.
