iPad with Wi-Fi-6

I’m looking to purchase a new iPad with Wi-Fi 6. Will I have to get a router that supports Wi-Fi 6 or can I still use the iPad with Wi-Fi six on a regular router that I already have? I would understand that not having a router that supports Wi-Fi 6 I might not get the faster speed and upload that the Wi-Fi 6 gives you.
