Converting MOV files authored iMovie from 2007

Help, my Apple peeps! I've read all the things, tried all the suggestions and platforms - VLC, Handbrake, iMovie import, CloudConvert, etc. Read all the threads here on the Apple forums and nothing works to convert (much less open) some old .MOV files. Am I SOL? I managed to convert to mp4 and mpeg but those won't open either - in Quicktime, iMovie, anything. I'm trying to rescue files off an old Mac laptop where they were authored in iMovie in 2007 (now through a MacBook Pro with iOS Sonoma 14.0). Yup, a million years ago. Any/all help appreciated!
