Audio output has been awful since updating to MacOS Sonoma

Since updating to Mac Sonoma the audio out of my 2018 Macbook pro is terrible. It is tinny and crackles.

I noticed first with spotify. I made sure I had the latest version. The audio improved for a couple of tracks then was last again.

Does anyone have any ideas?
