Can the iPhone 15 pro max purchased in California work in Canada
If I traded in my Canadian iPhone 13 Pro for a U.S. iPhone 15 pro max in California— would it work in Canada with no hassels

It should. You won't get mmwave in Canada though.
Note that it will only work with eSim supporting carriers in Canada as it has no actual sim slot for a physical sim card.
Also note, Warranty will only be valid in the U.S.
