There are still a LOT of Webcams that will not work after the 14.1 update, like this Amazon's Choice.
14.1 specifically removed support for any device not using the modern Extension structure.
See this:
This just happened a few weeks ago, so this question is going to come up a lot and that article is the answer. It explains the workaround as well.
Good luck!

I ordered that webcam and it doesn't work with 14.4.1. Behaves the same way my old Amcrest webcams do. Black box where the image should be. Both this Anker you suggest and my two Amcrest webcams work fine with Ventura. So it's not the cameras.
Most web cams should work. I have an Anker that is excellent in color and clarity. It also comes with free software that improves function:

My trusty Logitech C920 HD Pro webcam still works on my M2 Mac mini Pro running Sonoma 14.1.1.
Thanks: bought that Anker which is great! My old Logitech then started working having initially not as per socokid's reply below but poorer grainier quality (720 v 2k)
Works perfectly with my Mac on 14.4.1 so not sure what your issue my be unless you have some other app that is causing an issue.
