MacOS Sonoma update related issue : Touch ID won't put mac to sleep

Before updating to macos sonoma 14.1. If you want to put your macbook to sleep but not doing so via closing the lid ( let's say you are playing some music in the background, closing the lid would stop the music ). What i normally do is pressing the touch id button : this makes the mac goes to the lock screen, and it will enter sleep mode ( screen going black ) after a few seconds.

It doesn't work anymore

Now with macos sonoma, if you try to use this method, it just stuck in the lock screen but never goes to sleep. I know you could go the the corner  menu and press sleep but I would love to use the touch id method. It's just more convenient.

Do somebody know why did it changed? Is it to do with my settings or after the update apple just remove the function.

Thankyou so much

Let me try to rephrase it

Basically, I would press the touch id button on my keyboard, which makes the mac goes to lock screen, and after a few second the screen will turn black.

That's what I do if you want my mac to go to sleep without closing the lid.

It's not really an issue. It's just something I used to do and it's a comfy way to do so. Well, I can't do it anymore, so I am just asking is it just my problem or after the update they just remove this function.

On behalf of not being able to reproduce the issue, try pressing the touch id button. your mac should lock up and goes into the lock screen. Before the update the screen would go black after a few seconds. Now it just won't go black.

Understood.

I can not reproduce your issue.

Just your problem.

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot  as normal and test.  Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most* extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

You can use the key board short cut Control Command Q and compare your results.
