Digitizing 3/4" SONY U-matic analog video through an ADVC110 digitizer

I am trying to digitize analog video from

my: 3/4" SONY U-matic machine to:

my "Late 2012 iMac" using:

10.13.6 OS

using a Canopus ADVC110 Digitizer

(I have iMovie 10.1.12 and also FCPX 10.4.5)

in the past I have used this configuration to digitize analog video from VHS and DV cameras (instead of the U-matic machine) with the same digitizer and the same Applications but I don't remember how I did it.

Can anyone help?

The ADVC-110 has Firewire out; you need Firewire input on your Mac. The Late 2012 iMac does not have FW but it does have 2 Thunderbolt ports. You could use an Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter and an appropriate FW cable to connect - if I recall correctly the ADVC has a 4-pin female FW connector and the Adapter has a 9-pin female FW connector.

BTW, I do not believe the uMatic deck has either S-video (preferred) out or composite video out to connect to the Canopus box. Converting the uMatic video out to S-video or composite is another challenge. Here's a link to a report on how someone else went about capturing from a uMatic deck -> https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/400071-U-Matic-capture-project That person used a DPS-210 transcoder to get an S-video signal to feed his capture board. All this gear is very old, so you will need to search for used equipment.
