Hacked iPhone?

My mother has 2 iphones—6+ and 6s+. The 6+ was mine, gave it to her because I have a new one. Now, the 6+ isn’t logged in to an apple ID while the 6s+ is logged in using my mother’s apple ID. 2 days ago both phone suddenly won’t open because it says the passcode is incorrect. Tried fixing it…input the password several times, take a rest, tried again until the 6s+ opened. Unfortunately, the other didn’t. Yesterday, when I decided to try again, it says that someone used “Find My Phone” using an apple ID I don’t know. The phone got reset. Is there anyway I can help recover the phone? Thanks in advance.

Is the iPhone now activation locked to an appel id you don't recognize? And are you or is your mother the original owner of the iPhone?

If the answer to these questions is no, the iPhone might be activation locked to the previous owner.

If not, I suggest that your mother will follow these steps to regain control over her account

  1. Change your Apple ID password
  2. If your Apple ID password has been changed by someone else, reset your password.
  3. Go to appleid.apple.com to update any of personal or security information that isn't correct or that you don't recognize.
  4. Check with your email address* provider to make sure that you control every email address associated with your Apple ID. If you don't control an email address, work with your email provider to regain control or use a different email address.

Hi! Thanks for the response. The thing is the phone is not linked to an apple id. I used my apple ID at first to set up the phone (as it was previously mine) then sign it out. Only the other phone, the 6s+ is logged in to my mother’s apple ID. My mother is using the 6+ plus as a spare because she has 2 sim cards thus the reason why I didn’t bother to sign it in to her apple ID. I kind of regretted it now.
