How do I know if my iPhone SE is first or second generation?

Settings>General>About>Model Number... tap twice. You should see an "Axxxx" code (where xxxx are four numbers).

• Codes for SE 1st generation: A1723, A1662, A1724
• Codes for SE 2nd generation: A2275, A2298, A2296
• Codes for SE 3d generation: A2595, A2782, A2784, A2785, A2783

Gen 1 was discontinued 4+ years ago, so you would not be able to run any recent iOS version like iOS 16 or 17.

What iOS version is currently installed on your phone?

Settings > General > About > iOS Version

Click here and look it up.
