Notes app - Creating links in iPad

For the iPad - Every article in the internet, says tap the insertion point, then tap add link, or simply type ‘>>’. I have iOS 16.7.2

My issue is ‘add link’ does not come up. There is no add link. If I type >>, it just types the >>, it does not provide me an opportunity to create a link.

The link I am referring to is let’s say I want a word in my note to serve as a link. I am not referring to copying and pasting Internet addresses.

Thank you in advance.

Have you updated your iPad to iPadOS 17.1.1?

The Add Link using ">>" is a feature of the latest major version of iPadOS - and links to another Note:

Link to another note using the title

You can create a link to another note using the title of the target note. If the title of the target note changes, the link text updates to the new title.

  1. In the note where you want to add a link, tap the insertion point, then tap Add Link. Or simply type “>>”.
  2. Enter the title of the target note, then choose a note or create a new note.

To edit or remove the link, touch and hold the link, then choose an action.
