Since updating to Sonoma (14.1) my Apple SuperDrive refuses to load or play audio CDs, though it continues to play DVD movies with no problem. When I load an audio CD it shows up briefly in Music, then bounces in and out of view. After I've ejected the disc I then get a dialog box asking if I want to import the disc - with the correct disc name.

Ripped CDs or Commercial CDs? Commercial CDs play fine for me.
Try updating to 14.1.1 which released today.

I see. Then I don't know. I assume you have the SuperDrive plugged directly into a port. If so, it's possible the lens for CDs is dirty. You can get CD cleaning disks from many sources; Amazon, office supply stores, etc. If no commercial disks will play then it's possible the drive is broken. Also, it's possible if you have HD cds they may not play. The ones I own are standard CDs from the 80s and 90s.
Thanks, but I've cleaned the lens already, and as mentioned, it still loads and plays DVD movie discs perfectly.

Just to add, I have an iMac Pro and an M1 MackBook Air running Sonoma and the SuperDrive plays commecial music CDs without any problem. Is there anything special about the CDs you're using?
No. I've tried quite a few at this point.
Are you plugging directly into the computer or using a hub. I have a OWC thunderbolt hub that requires a firmware update if a superdrive is plugged into it.
I also have an OWC thunderbolt hub, however, the Superdrive is plugged directly into the iMac. I have also tried the Superdrive with both my MacBook Pros and it continues to work fine with them. Of course, they have not been updated to Sonoma.

Thanks for all suggestions. I finally chatted with an Apple rep who suggested I create a Test User ID. Sure enough, logging in with the new ID fixed my SuperDrive problem completely.
by User ID you mean user profile? So you can’t load a CD on your profile?
Same problem but now on Sonoma 14.3. DVDs load and play but I can’t upload a purchased CD to Music or even play the CD from my Super Drive.
