Ping on find my not playing sound

I’ve been trying to fix this actively for a while. I use my AirPod to ask Siri to “find my iPhone” then I hear back that it’s nearby, pinging iPhone. When I tried fixing the issue I did the same thing, but this time with my phone in my hand and it says “playing sound” on the notification. I made sure my phone isn’t on silent so I’m really confused on how to fix it.

I understand that you're having trouble with the "Play Sound" feature on Find My iPhone. I've gathered some troubleshooting steps that might help resolve the issue:

  1. Check Device Settings:
    1. Ensure your iPhone's sound is turned on. Check the Ringer/Silent switch and the volume buttons.
    2. Verify that your iPhone is not in silent mode. Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringer and Silence, and make sure the switch is not turned on.
    3. Confirm that your iPhone is not in DND mode. Go to Settings > Focus > Do Not Disturb, and make sure the switch is not turned on.
  2. Verify Internet Connection:
    1. For the Find My feature to work correctly, your iPhone must have an active internet connection. Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
  3. Restart iPhone:
    1. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Try restarting your iPhone and checking if the "Play Sound" feature works now.
  4. Update iOS:
    1. Ensure you have the latest iOS updates installed. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and check for available updates.
  5. Reset All Settings:
    1. If the issue persists, consider resetting all settings on your iPhone. This will not erase your personal data, but it will reset all settings to factory defaults. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.
  6. Contact Apple Support:
    1. If none of the above steps resolve the issue, contact Apple Support for further assistance. They can help you diagnose the problem and provide more specific troubleshooting steps.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Make sure the AirPods are fully charged and connected to your iPhone.
  • Try using the "Play Sound" feature from another Apple device, such as an iPad or Mac, to see if the issue persists.
  • If you have multiple AirPods cases, try using a different case to see if the issue is related to a specific case.

Been having this issue too. It only works if someone else pings it, now. It sucks because I won't have family around all the time to find it for me. I'm blind and have ADHD, and asking Siri to say something doesn't help with AirPods in. I don't know why my phone stopped being able to play a sound on itself. I get emails saying a sound played on my phone...no tf it didn't. If it did, it was my media resuming in my earbuds after Siri said it was playing a sound. (Liar.)
