Can't log in with Passkey on iCloud in a browser other than Safari

I have an iPhone 11 and a Mac mini M2

Go to icloud.com on a mac in a browser other than Safari
Click on log in
Enter your email address and continue
Click on Log in with Passkey
Scan the QR code in the popup with an iPhone with iOS 17 or later
Your phone starts connecting to the mac and will show a strange empty blue button with the text Choose an account to sign in to "apple.com". See the picture beneath.

How do I solve this issue?

I just figured it out myself. It is a bug when you don't use passwords and passkeys from iCloud Passwords & Keychain. I use 1Password, and apparently this is what happens. When you activate iCloud Passwords & Keychain under Password Options the problem is solved.

I solved this problem in Chrome on my Mac by doing the following:

Copy/paste the following into the address bar

chrome://flags/#enable-debug-for-secure-payment-confirmation

Disable the feature that comes up.

This fixed it for me.

This is seriously annoying. While the Keychain is a wonderful mechanism, it's not as capable as 1Password or other managers. You must support third party solutions even if it offends someone's security sensibilities.
