Apple Vision Pro is now available in the U.S.

Why did Apple remove the ability to manually assign time zones?

Recently the option to change the default time zone went away. I use this for collaboration with other users.

Windows, Windows 10

That means you have Screen Time restrictions or a work or school email account enabled that are preventing that setting form being changed. Apple has nothing to do with that.

If you have enabled Screen Time with a password the option will be dimmed to prevent bypassing the screen time time limits by changing time zones.

Check Settings ➜ Screen Time ➜ Lock Screen Time with a Password.

If you have a corporate or school email account or a profile installed in Settings ➜ General ➜ VNP and Device Management, then that also can disable the option to change Time Zones. Contact your IT department so they can modify their profile or Exchange email account restrictions.

The option to enable/disable Set Automatically is now grayed out. It says:
The time zone cannot be set manually due to device restrictions.

What you’re trying to do here was routinely used to work around some restrictions, so whoever is managing this iPhone has disabled that capability. This usually means that either one or more Profiles are loaded and the device is managed or supervised, or that Parental Controls are enabled. Check with your management, etc.
