Editing text messages by dragging and dropping the cursor further up in a long message and not being able to get this done

My iPhone is updated to the current update, and I’ve read over many of these helpful comments, but I still have the problem of editing a long text towards the beginning due to the curser not working, this is regarding my iPhone 12 Pro

Text Messages - Now have to click Open Recently had to reset all settings in iPhone 11 on iOS 16.6. Previous text messages would open immediately with a single touch. After reset, when I touch the message, an open button appears. Is there a setting I can change a setting to get rid of the extra step?
