How to checking MacBook Pro for hacking?

I have an Ubuntu 18.04 server on my side of the router that turned out to be hacked.

Before I knew this , Norton 360 asked me a few time if I should allow the server to access my Mac, it made a few attempts.

While I am certain that I said no each time, is. there another way to check my MacBook to make sure it's secure. I'm running a full Norton scan, but that would be for viruses. Someone having access to my MacBook, or anything they set it up to do, would probably not be caught by that.

Not familiar enough with Unix environments to know what to look through on my Mac far.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.0
