Why is my MacBook Pro 13” battery different?

FYI, the photo shows the battery is upside down, so it is no wonder it is not fitting correctly.

Did you select the correct laptop model on OWC's website? OWC knows their Macs and have been providing products made specifically for Apple computers for decades. Click the Apple menu and select "About This Mac" to get the exact model of the Mac. Or you can enter the system serial number using the following link:

Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support

It is on you to properly identify the exact model of your Mac and select the correct part from the OWC website. If in doubt, then contact OWC support for assistance to make sure you are purchasing the correct battery.

sounds to me that the vendor didn't sell you the proper battery. if it was me, I would go to OWC’s website to shop for a battery for your specific Mac. not only are they well versed in everything Mac, they are also the people that I recommend for finding a quality third party battery.

I just went on OWC’s site and searched, but it’s the same battery that I was supplied, with the incorrect battery connector.

FWIW, sometimes they use stock images on their site that do not match 100% with the product you will actually receive. I would contact an IRL person on their support team and let them know the situation you are experiencing.

They just sold you the wrong battery hoping you'd not notice.
