cannot connect USB C pencil with IPAD 10 gen

i brought USB -C pencil yesterday and it is not connecting to Ipad 10 gen

Website claims it can be connected and compatible but physically NOT

iPad, iPadOS 16

Ensure that you have updated your iPad10 to iPadOS 17.1 - as otherwise the USB-C Pencil will not be recognised.

thank you LotusPilot, i had tried everything i could think of, i was concluding reluctantly that my new Apple USB-C pencil must be faulty, but manually updating to 17.1.1 fixed the problem for me
