Mac Pro Additional Internal Hard drives

Hello,

I have a MacPro7,1 and I want to fit an additional internal hard drive. What are the recommendations for the internal drives on this machine? What connection type do I need?

Thanks in advance

Regards

David

There are no built-in drive BAYS in the Mac Pro 7,1.

There is a space above the I/O card, where you can bolt in the device I pictured above, or similar devices made by other vendors. Very close by, but NOT lined up to just plug in a drive, are two SATA data CABLE ports, a splittable power port, and a USB-3 port. Take a look at that picture again, because that IS your internal drive solution.

once you install that holder and cables:

"Fusion Flex J3i provide support for mounting two 3.5-inch SATA hard drives of your choice, AND

the Flex’s custom design provides mounting support for an additional 2.5-inch SATA SSD."

Thanks again Grant, wow no drive bays! This exactly why I needed to ask as I had no idea there where none at all. Have to say I'm not impressed with that at all, I think there should be standard drive bays.

The device you mentioned looks good but wow £300 just to hold drives!! There's no way the Finance Director is going to allow £300 for just a holder and then still have to buy a drive to put in it. Sadly I'm just going to have to go with an external drive again. Thanks for the advice.

Kind Regards

David
