I'm new to the MacOS ecosystem running MacBook Air, Sonoma 14.1.1. I've been migrating files from Win10 and somewhere along that process my Mac Desktop now shows a Macintosh HD drive icon. It wasn't there originally and not sure what I did that caused it to appear. Since I believe it represents the Home drive is there any issue dragging it to the Trash? It's an icon - not a shortcut.

You can control what is displayed on the macOS Desktop by selecting the Desktop. This should result in the Finder app showing in the menu bar.
From there, select Finder > Settings. This will result in a pop-up window with various Finder Settings you can change. Most likely, in this case, the "Hard disks" options has been enabled.
I suggest trying each option to see what they do as part of you getting familiar with using macOS. I also suggest that you explore the many resources available to you (free or paid) to learn more about using your Mac.
