Default audio device selection
When a bluetooth audio headset connects to mac os, it is not automatically selected as the output. How does one tell mac os to select the bluetooth device when it connects?

I do "get it". you would like devices to automatically work a certain way. I'm guessing that you mean when you use a specific app, that the BT and sound settings would start up in the way you want them to. AFAIK, no, there are no settings for that.
Look in the Sound Pref Pane for Output, select it there. :)
I think that is a function of the specific device. I have a BT receiver connected to my home stereo. if I select that in BT, then I need to manually select it in my sound output. but I have a pair of BT earbuds. when I turn those on, it automatically sets the BT and sound output properly.
I totally agree that it would be nice if every BT device automatically worked that way. but there are literally millions of BT accessories. apple cannot make their software work a certain way with all of those devices. it is up to the manufacturers to ensure their devices work properly with macOS.
Nope, you don't get it. BT devices can 'work' with Mac OS. The problem I have is that Mac OS selects a device by default that is not the one I want it to. Is there a way in Mac OS to choose which device is selected by default or a way to set the priority of which device is selected first?
I want Mac OS to make the default audio device that it is using to be selected according to my preferences. For example, if there are three audio devices: 1) speaker on screen one 2) speaker on screen two and 3) My BT headphones. If my BT device is not connected, then the default is #2 and Mac Os selects it, when I connect my BT device, Mac OS stays with #2 selected instead of automatically switching to #3.
My question is first can I configure this (I am asking Apple specifically) and second if I cannot, can Apple consider it for the next version of Mac OS.
For the most part your responses have not been addressing my issue, and I am asking Apple also.

as I already mentioned, I believe there are no settings for that.
(I am asking Apple specifically)
asking apple does not happen on this site. this is a user to user forum. apple only monitors the site to look for violations of the terms of the community.
and second if I cannot, can Apple consider it for the next version of Mac OS.
again, apple is not here. to suggest new features you would like to see, contact them here > Feedback - macOS - Apple

I'm trying my best to help. so I guess I will now step aside. maybe someone else can help you.
That is not the issue. I want to set the Bluetooth audio device to be automatically selected when it connects to the Mac.
I don't have the bandwidth or data to se this video, but it purports to st a default BT Sound output...
It seems like the Mac os should have a setting or a priority of which audio device to automatically set.
This video is for windows. not helpful
Sorry, the blurb had a picture of a Mac Desktop!:(
Ok. You have been helpful regarding Apple getting questions/suggestions from this group.
