I have the same problem. I went to the Apple genius bar and they told me that they are seeing several computers a week with the same problem. They wiped my computer and restored from Time Machine, but the problem still persisted. So they again wiped and restored to Ventura. I'm waiting for a patch with the next update before again installing Sonoma.

Before jumping on the "it must be a bug" bandwagon, and/or sending feedback to Apple — ensure that your version of macOS is current, which 14.1.1 certainly is not. Each update of the operating system may fix actual bugs or unplaned behavior in the operating system version that precedes it. Same is true with Safari which likely would receive an update concurrent with the operating system update.

I am running macOS 14.4.1 on a 2023 M2 Mac Mini Pro and it is working flawlessly.

No idea about the sound control panels but I just updated today to Sonoma 14.1.1 & now Safari won't load. It's just stuck on the force quit as "Safari (not responding)". Have rebooted/restarted/forced quit but nothing. Thank goodness other browsers work but of course Safari is where all of my passwords that I need are saved :(

You can try holding the Shift key down and launch Safari.app see if it gets you further.

No progress—

try a SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot  as normal and test.  Caches get rebuilt automatically.

No issues here on 1 M1, 1 M2 and 1 M3 using Sonoma 14.4.1

Is there a specific issue ?

If so, provide some details and context as to what you believe is holding you from upGrading to version 14.4.1

We might be able to provide some insights !

The security patches alone make it imperative you keep your Mac up-to-date. After every update there are reports of weird bugs that the vast, vast majority of users are NOT experiencing. The very few reporting this particular issue are outliers, not typical. Their issues can likely easily be solved by some basic troubleshooting.
