Upgraded modem/router. IPhone stopped handing off calls to iPad

I reset the wifi network connection on both devices (iPhone & iPad). Wifi network is the same on both devices, and I’m signed into both with same Apple ID. Settings on both devices turned on to allow iPhone to hand off to iPad when both logged into the network. All other sharing across devices works fine (texts, photos, etc.). Have turned options on both devices off & back on again; rebooted both devices; turned both devices completely off then on again. Both devices indicate they are connected to wifi.

This feature worked fine until I needed to upgrade the modem and router, which entailed a new wifi network name and password. I’ve tried every suggestion I can find, but a few say (unhelpfully) that it might be a router setting, and a couple say I need to contact Apple support. I can’t find any details about what specific router setting might be the issue. I can’t find any relevant info on my ISP site (Spectrum) or forums.

Does anyone have suggestions?

Normally router settings allow all ports to be open. If any ports have been blocked, or the router is set to block all but “well known” ports, that can prevent continuity settings from connecting. Check out this list of ports→TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products - Apple Support and either set the router to allow all ports, or at least the ports labeled for “bonjour” in that list.

The other thing to check is to go to Settings/Phone/Calls on other devices, turn it and all devices off, then restart your phone and add them back.

Something else that may block continuity is if you have VPN installed on your phone (even if you are not using it), so delete the VPN profile and app. If that fixes it you can add the VPN back and it should reconfigure itself to the new router.

This covers the most common issues; if none of this helps post back and there’s more to check.

So sorry not to check back in sooner. I really appreciate your help on this. The rebooting everything in order has allowed me to answer calls to my phone on my iPad. However, if I turn my phone on to Do Not Disturb (via Focus), when I turn off Do Not Disturb, I have to update the settings (turn off/on the share calls with other devices on the phone settings) then reboot both the phone and the iPad for calls to go through again. It’s not the most difficult of workarounds I’ve had to deal with in tech, but I’m wondering why that’s happening. Remembering to do that dance before I get a phone call is the biggest challenge!
