swiping up from the bottom doesn't remove the orange theater faces at the 12. Not only do I have those two orange faces but my watch's face is totally black. How do I fix?

With watchOS 10 you now access Control Center by tapping the side button:
Use Control Center on Apple Watch - Apple Support
From there you can turn-off Theater Mode (which are the orange faces). That will also enable your watch screen.
