FCPX importing ALL files from external hard drive

I'm running Sonoma and FCPX 10.6.10 on my MacBook Pro 2020 and when I go to import specific media files to the Library, ALL the files on the external hard drive start loading, instead of the ones I have chosen.

What has also happened is that when I go to the import page, it only sows a few clips - the same ones all the time - and I can't go back to the list, or see any of the other files on the drive. I can see all the files on the drive in Finder, but for some reason, not in the Import window of FCPX.

I also tried it on my 2014 iMac running Catalina and FCPX 10.5.4 to see if that made a difference, but it was exactly the same - the external hard drive automatically starts loading all files and I can only see the same few.

Please see photos that show what I see when I try to Import Media first, and then after an hour of all the files automatically trying to load and import.

I appreciate this might be an issue with the external drive, which is a G-Raid, as it only happens with this one. However, I want to try the expertise here first, as there is probably a better overview of how the software works with drives.

Thank you.

Hi Tom,

thank you for responding. That would make sense, as many of the folders are named ‘video’ or DCIM. It’s odd that it only happens with this drive though. I’m not getting any info when I look at how it’s set up. Do you suggest changing the folder names, or is that too simple?

Update: I just tried another drive and it came up under ‘Devices’, whereas the G-Raid is coming up under ‘Camera’ when I try to import files.

Is there a workaround to change how the G-Raid is indentified?
