2020 M1 MacBook Air for Garageband?

My daughter is doing GCSE music in UK and I want to get her a MacBook so she can do music composition on GarageBand. Is the M1 MacBook with 6GB of RAM 256GB SSD a suitable choice? I want to balance costs but don’t want to limit her use of GarageBand. She will predominantly use the device for schoolwork etc. Any advice appreciated!

I would go for a MacBook Air M2 If I were you. That one is only a bit more expensive and gives a much faster chip. Further the MacBook Air is a good choice for using garageband. If your daughter is going to perform heavier music tasks using Logic Pro and that kind of professional software, the MacBook Pro might be a better fit, because that one has active cooling with fans, as the MacBook air does only have passive cooling, so this can effect the performance when performing heavy tasks on the MacBook.
