Rename Firmware File?

Trying to connect a Samsung soundbar to a new TV. The soundbar requires a firmware update, which is apparently a Windows file. Samsung suggested I contact MacBook support to get help opening the file.

The file is HMS-S40TWWB-1111.0.bin. When I try to open the file I get, "Unable to expand HMS-S40TWWB-1111.0.bin. It is in an unsupported format." Running Sonoma 14.1 on my 2020 M1 MacBook Pro.

You all are my last hope! I do have a new soundbar that matches the LG TV I now have waiting for me at Best Buy.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.1

That might have explained it, but when I looked at the instructions again, It's a zip file which I am to open and then, navigate through the files until I get to the specific one for my update, which I move it to the flash drive. I put the flash drive in the sound bar and voila!

You overlook the fact that Safari's default setting is to always open "safe" files which means Safari "opened" the .zip file, extracted its contents (the .bin file), then deleted the original .zip file. Sometimes macOS is too helpful.

The instructions specifically say " ... on your PC", so I guess they really mean no Macs allowed.

But then I had trouble finding the download in the first place because Samsung did not put my model under "Audio", but under "Lifestyle."

Thanks!
