Random sequence of letters with each text message received

When I text with my friend who uses an android, I get these random letters and numbers preceded by a ~ with each of their messages. Contacted Apple but they have never encountered this before. I'm thinking it's an issue with my friend's phone but not sure.

The random sequence of letters and numbers preceded by a ~ that you are receiving from your friend who uses an Android phone is most likely caused by a compatibility issue between the two messaging platforms. When an iPhone user sends a text message to an Android user, the iPhone uses a different messaging protocol called iMessage. iMessage is not compatible with Android phones, so the Android phone has to convert the iMessage message to a standard SMS message. This conversion process can sometimes cause errors, resulting in a random sequence of letters and numbers.

There are a few things that your friend can try to fix the issue:

  • Update their Android phone to the latest software version. Software updates often include bug fixes that can resolve compatibility issues with other messaging platforms.
  • Try a different messaging app. There are many third-party messaging apps available for Android phones, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal. These apps use their messaging protocols, which may be more compatible with iPhones.

If you have already contacted Apple and they have not been able to resolve the issue, then it is most likely an issue with your friend's Android phone. However, the above suggestions may help to fix the issue.

Here are some additional tips:

  • Ask your friend to try sending you a text message from a different phone number. If the message is received correctly, then the issue is likely with your phone number.
  • Try sending a text message to your friend from a different iPhone. If the message is sent correctly, then the issue is likely with your friend's phone.
  • Try resetting your phone's network settings. This can sometimes resolve compatibility issues with other messaging platforms.

If you have tried all of the above suggestions and the issue is still not resolved, then you may need to contact your friend's mobile carrier for further assistance.

To send an SMS message, you need cellular network connection. ... Check with your carrier to see if the type of message you're trying to send, like MMS or SMS, is supported. If you're trying to send group MMS messages on an iPhone, go to Settings > Messages and turn on MMS Messaging.

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or ...
