Apple Vision Pro is now available in the U.S.

Will I need to pay for Final Cut Pro when I upgrade my computer?

If I bought Final Cut preinstalled on a computer and am planning to upgrade to a new computer, do I need to pay again for the new computer?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 14.1

Did you accept the purchase into your Apple ID?

If you are unsure: open the App Store application; click on your account, at the bottom left. Is Final Cut Pro listed there amongst your purchases? If it is, then all is fine.

If not, then you must "accept" it - I am not familiar with the details, as I have never purchased FCP or other software bundled with a mac.

I bought Final Cut Pro bundled with a Mac and have since bought two new Macs. I've had no problem installing it on the new machines. I used the same AppleID throughout - that is likely to be important. There was something about accepting after the initial purchase as Luis mentions but I've never seen that again so it is a one-off process.

You're correct. It's a one-off thing.

When applications are bought directly using the App Store the purchase is automatically connected the Apple ID used. When bundled with a new mac, they are not; this accepting process has the very purpose of associating the purchase to an Apple ID. From then on, it will work the same as if bought in the App Store.

FCP will be able to be updated and can be installed on any macs that the user owns and controls; it can also be shared with Family Sharing.
