Texted Videos Do Not Play iPhone 15 PM / iOS 17

When someone texts me a video, it won’t play. When I click on it, the screen just goes black and the timer doesn’t run.

Also, trying to open it further by double tapping it OR by trying to preview it by holding my finger down doesn’t work either as nothing happens.

Even if I download it to my phone, it has the same issue and never plays. If I try to even move at random time intervals within the video, it won’t play at that time mark. Also note that it won’t visually go to that part of the video I skipped to, it just stays black or on the thumbnail starter view. This to me is the more striking issue because it should work at least when I download it to my photos.

I’ve noticed that this issue has usually come about in my group texts, rather than when an individual texts me.

This issue includes both personal videos someone created on their phone and videos from Instagram/tiktoc. Note I don’t have Instagram or TT but the videos still used to at least play if I clicked on it.

Restarted my phone a few times and it didn’t help. Also turned WiFi on and off no help.

I have a 15 PM with iOS 17.1.1.
