iTunes playback stuck at 0:00, tracks won't play

iTunes Version 12.13.0.9

When I select a song to be played it just doesn't play.

Trying to play songs in iTunes. I can click on a song, the

song will appear above. The 'Play' button will appear as the 'Pause'

button. However, the timer is on, and showing 0:00. There is no

progress of the timer, as if iTunes were 'stuck'. (The time remaining

remains at the length of the song.) Toggling the Pause and Play buttons

works, but doesn't start the track playing.

Shut iTunes and reopen it, the songs will play.

I can't work out what causes this to occur. It seems to just decide not to play any songs.

Frustrating that I have to continuously restart iTunes as sometimes I can't restart iTunes, it becomes non-responsive requiring a Windows restart.
