U R G E N T: Scrambled Contacts

Contacts in my iPhone 14Plus are severely scrambled. I have an iPad Air 2 that used to belong to my father (and thus synced with his Apple ID). Somehow the contacts have gotten scrambled through various syncs with my Apple ID. The details of my contacts are intact and valid (emails, phone numbers, addresses, etc.) but are all over the place. I have 1 contact that has probably 30 emails incorrectly associated with it from other contacts. I have had this scrambled contacts issue for a few years now. I believe it started with my iPhone 6 which I just switched from within the past month. The only remotely plausible solution I can come up with is to find a site or preferably a program I can download to my Windows 11 Acer laptop that will look up the contact info I have and re-associate them correctly.

Sorry, you did show the right screen, but the hosts removed it because it contained personal information. You have a mishmash of contacts from 2 gmail accounts, a yahoo account, and your iCloud Apple ID account. That would account for many duplicates.

Now open Contacts and tap on Lists at the top left if it isn’t already showing the word Lists in bold at the top of the screen. That will show you each of your contact sources, and you can see which contacts “belong” to each contact source. spot check them for duplicates, and if they are duplicated on more than one list you can either turn of contacts for the accounts that have duplicates or manually adjust the contacts. Ideally, after verifying that the contacts you want are in iCloud you should tap on each account in Settings/Contacts/Accounts and turn off the Contacts (and possibly the Calendar) switches for all except iCloud. If you still have duplicates there are ways to deal with that.

I’ll try your suggestion.

Not sure I have duplicates per se…more like someone (my old phone) took all the fields within all my contacts and threw them up in the air like confetti and wherever they landed they landed.

Basically a given contact entry may have the:

“Contact A” name

“Contact J” email address

“Contact V” email address

“Contact D” phone number

“Contact K” phone number
