wifi connection on ios 17.1.1

I am signed in to my wifi network, which has internet access (other devices are on the internet just fine). But my iphone is unable to browse the web, and apps with internet connection requirements (such as email, social media) don't load. It seems like it might be a DNS issue? Basically iphone doesn't seem able to successfully send queries. The phone gets onto the wifi network just fine, and shows all four wifi "bars."

Restarting the phone / resetting network settings seems to provide a temporary fix.

I am on an iPhone 13 pro running iOS 17.1.1.

As I said, restarting or resetting network settings provides a temporary fix. But the issue keeps happening. There’s at least one other person who has the same issue who has replied, and the update is fairly recent so it’s not surprising that the “thousands” of people this issue no doubt affects haven’t taken the time to write a post on these forums yet. Hopefully Apple fixes the issue before that happens.

Just updated to iOS 17.2 and this did NOT fix my issue with Private IP addressing. Set to ‘ON’ results in no internet. Se to ‘OFF’ results in an internet connection!

browsing blogs (non-Apple) solution may need involve turning your router ACL list off when MAC filtering is being used. For me I’m not going to try this as prior to IOS 17, everything related to IP WiFi and router security worked. It’s that simple.

I have same issue with Wi-Fi connection on iPhone 15 model IOS 17.1 and updated 17.1.1, not loading pages, apps do not work on WIFI or loading pages. LinkedIn and some bank apps not working. Issue started when I updated software, using 4g battery drawing fast. Also, same issue with different models what my friends using on same IOS updates.

This issue is not related to any of the iOS updates. If it were, millions of other iPhones would have been affected as well.

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches. Turn off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

  1. Restart the device. That's it.
  2. Still not solved --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Reset Network Settings: Only network settings are removed.

  • When you reset network settings, previously used networks and VPN settings that weren’t installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM) are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks settings remain turned on.
  • To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the configuration profile, then tap Remove Profile. This also removes other settings and accounts provided by the profile. See Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone in this guide.
  • To remove network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the management, then tap Remove Management. This also removes other settings and certificates provided by MDM. See “Mobile device management (MDM)” in the iOS Deployment Reference.
  • Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

If the above fails...

Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, the Home screen layout, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

  1. Reset All Settings: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support:- Return iPhone settings to their defaults
  2. You can return settings to their defaults without erasing your content.
  3. If you want to save your settings, back up your iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.

If nothing above works probably it could be your iPhone may have a WiFi radio or antenna problem. In that case, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support and get the hardware tested and if needed repaired/replaced.

I am not 100% sure, but WI-FI router connection, IP address configuration change automatic to manual and copy the IP address/ or chose BootP - for me this solved issue at the moment!(iPhone Wi-Fi settings) and voila works, also you can try open new Wi-Fi connection port as Guest without password might be works, but this definitely IOS software issue about new wifi 6 how connecting for the router.

Hey all,

I recently bought an iPhone 15 pro and I do have the exact same issue as stated above. I didn’t have any issue so far, but one random night I figured out I didn’t have any internet connection anymore while the WiFi sign was showing full bars… with 4g, the phone keeps shifting between WiFi and 4g, like every 2 minutes. When shifting to WiFi, pages load at first, but then connection is lost and shifts to 4g, WiFi comes back, shifts, and so on…

i don’t think this is something to do with my router because all other devices do work fine, and didn’t have any issue before doing the update.

any fix ?

Iphone 12 Pro

Updated last night to 17.1.1

Now I have no internet connection at all AND I do not have a data plan... so when there is a fix for this how will I get the update????

I've tried all of these "fixes" and none of them work short of resetting my phone which I have not done yet as I don't believe it will resolve my issue as nothing else has.

Me 2 . Works fluently however this is a very old school settings and clearly show bug on IOS 17.1 for connecting type or routers if set up automatic configure IP. Not every people effect really depend on router device in the house, but I am sure many of us having issue and I told them to change for BootP, now WI-FI works for them as well, happy to help

Thanks for the detailed steps, but it did start after iOS upgrade iOS 17 onwards, 17.1 fixed many such weird issues. In fact we had to restore one of the iPhone by family member from backup and it resolved different issue of extremely extremely extremely slow iPhone issue (not just wifi but EVERYTHING and was suggested by Apple store employee!!) but had to login to every app again....

BootP seems to be working as good workaround for the slow wifi issue... RIP Steve Jobs, they are trying hard to keep up the quality of the software but eh...

Same problem here with 2 iPhone 13 pros. First, after 17.1.1 update the first iPhone 13 pro works with Private IP Address set to 'ON'. Second iPhone 13 pro did not work with Private IP address set to 'ON'.

Turned Private IP Address to 'OFF" on both iPhones and internet connection worked.

Watched iPhone turned back 'ON' for Private IP setting and router device list reports that a new iPhone has connected with a new IP address and has a status of "BLOCKED" as MAC filtering is enabled on router to prevent unauthorized device access.

Doesn't seem 17.1.1 fixed this problem as Apple says there have been no reported problems with Private IP address setting enabled.?????

Forgot to add to post that all other Apple devices that have been updated does not have this Private IP Address issue. Included are 2 iPads, 2 Apple TV and MBP 16.

Seems that enabling Private IP Address may issue a 'roaming' IP address that can be blocked if your router is using MAC filtering.

Only thing working is to turn Private IP Address to 'disable' or 'off'.

If anyone else has this problem please let everyone else know if you have found another solution.

Testing today strange results. Went to friends home connected to WiFi and Private IP address turned on automatically. Then to local shopping mall, Private IP address is ON with different IP address. Return home without making any changes to Private IP setting, somehow set to OFF? But connects perfectly with home router!?! Go figure, Apple seems not able to!

Same thing happen to me with an iPhone 11 pro and a 12 pro but only after i did an ''update and restore'' through iTune after that i couldn't connect to any WiFi but they where working before with iOS 17.1 the update it did was 17.1.1 !! I had to put every WiFi connection to BOOTP in the information of each network to make it work again, kinda annoying.

Having the same issue with iPhone 15 since installing iOS 17.1 (and 17.1.1). It affects both wifi and cell despite showing full bars for both. Going to settings>wifi shows connected but says no internet connection. If I turn off wifi and just try cell data also will not connect to internet. Restarting iPhone will resolve for a few days then stick again.

Today I had the same experience while driving and phone would not connect to car play with wifi and Bluetooth showing as connected. Even with USB cable connecting phone to car play it would not connect until a restart of the phone.

Turns out I had been offline for over 4 hours and missed several important messages from my son on iMessage and work on Signal.

ugh.
