Import folders of photos into Photos app with structure

I'm looking to import photos in structured folders into the Photos app in MacOS.

Currently, when I choose Import and then select a folder with subfolders of pictures inside, I get nothing. No photos to import. These are mostly jpg and png. How do I do this? Do I click and drag the root folder into Photos? Or something else? Am I missing something? It would be very hard to recreate all of the subfolders, hence the question.

MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)

Drag a folder of images to the 'My Albums'section of the sidebar. It will import the images and create an Albums from the sub-folders within the Folder.

Șo fi you have a folder called - say - Our Holiday, with 5 folders of images named Day 1, Day 2 etc. Drag the 'Our Holiday' Folder to the sidebar at 'My Albums' and you will end up with a folder called 'Our Holiday' and within it 5 albums named Day 1, Day 2 etc.

I just tried it after reading your post and, unfortunately, it does not work correctly.

1) It gives me the import screen.

2) I create a new album from the dropdown menu

3) I click on "Keep Folders"

4) I click on "Import All New Photos"

5) It creates an album with the top level photos

6) It creates an empty folder with the same name under it which I can expand, and there is nothing in there.

Maybe I'm importing it wrong in the steps above?

EDIT: Never mind! I got it to work. I should not create new album. I should just leave it on the default of "None" and it does it perfectly. Thank you!
