My iPhone 7 Plus won't receive software updates

Why my iPhone 7 plus stops receiving software updates? Current version: 15.8. I don't understand this, if Apple made the product, why should it keep receiving all last updates as well?

iPhone 7 Plus is > 7 years old.

iOS 15.8 is max for iPhone 7 Plus.

If you want to update to iOS 16 or higher you need to have a newer iPhone.

I have an iPhone 7 Plus and just received an update to 15.8.2 on 4/15/2024. So my 7 Plus is still receiving updates. My understanding, however, is that the 7 Plus will never see iOS 16 or later. So we may see 15.8.3 or 15.9.x or whatever. At some point Apple will no longer send updates to these old phones. They can't continue to support old technology. It cost too much to do so. Don't hate Apple for moving on with technology. Yes, alas, even my beloved iPhone 7 Plus must someday go by way of the dinosaur. When it comes to the argument of demanding manufacturers to support their creations forever let me ask this... Have you lately tried to find parts for a 67 Chevy? Or maybe a 65 Mustang? This is true in everything we see and touch. Anybody still got their RAZR? God, I loved that phone, and yet now I can't even imagine ever going back. I have already seen many apps that will not let you download unless you have at least iOS 16. Gonna have to be an app that I just can't live without before I force myself to do the inevitable and upgrade. Especially at these prices!!! My last laptop did not cost as much as many of today's current phones. Just my 2 cents worth.

Greetings! I see that you are asking questions about software update on you iPhone 7 Plus. The answer is, you cannot get the latest iOS 17.4 update on any devices older than the iPhone XR. Furthermore, I would recommend switching to a newer iPhone to get a more modern experience, as well as to get access to the latest iOS updates.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

• If you have an iPhone 5S or 6/6plus, the highest you can update to is 12.5.7

• If you have an iPhone 6S through 7, or SE 1st generation, you can update to 15.8.1

• If you have an iPhone 8 or X, you can update to 16.7.5

• If you have an iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), or XR through 15, you can update to 17.4

Go to Settings > General > Software Update.

What happens when you try?

Can you post a screenshot of the whole screen, it could reveal why you aren't able to update.

Make sure you:

• Are using a WiFi connection (not a hotspot).

• You have an active cell signal (You need both WiFi and cellular service to perform the upgrade).

• Are not using a VPN connection.

• Have your battery charged at least 50%. Better yet, keep it plugged in during the update.

• Do not have power save mode turned on.

• Do not have a beta version installed.

• You have at least 10 gigs of storage available.
